Shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region, I made
a short trip to New Orleans.  The impact it had on me was profound.  Up to that point, I had
reported on the devastation and seen hours of footage, but nothing...  absolutely nothing
could prepare me for what I saw and smelled once I was there.

It was as if a nuclear bomb had detonated and time stood still...  something I would
see in a movie.  As I stood on Interstate 10 in downtown New Orleans, I looked across miles of
flooded neighborhoods...  saw hundreds of cars underwater...  hundreds of homes completely
uninhabitable and then I realized something that I will never forget...

I was standing in the middle of a major US city and all I heard were helicopters flying above,
military chatter...  and...  dogs barking from various random locations, that was it.  There was no life.
No commerce.  No traffic.  No people.  No nothing.  It was very eerie.  I suddenly felt the
wrath of Katrina.  I was terribly saddened.

While in New Orleans, it was great to see some of my friends and colleagues
from The Fox News Channel who live in other cities.
It was great seeing them even under such conditions.

Trace "Too Tall" Gallagher was reporting live from the overpass I was on at the time.
Am I really that short??

Camp Fox!  This was actually paradise for the staff and reporters.  Everybody stayed in buses and campers.  We were fortunate enough to have bathrooms and air conditioning.  This gives you an idea of how reporters on location live.

Nora Zimmett, a Los Angeles based Producer was on location in New Orleans.  And I am supposed to say "Hi" to her husband... an avid Fox News Fan himself!

"Hi Nora's Husband!!"

This Fox satellite truck was set up right on Interstate 610.

I have always wanted to go to New Orleans...  Someday I'll get to go back and see it as it should be...

See Trace work!  Work Trace, work!
Hey Girls, check out those legs!!
Hubba!  Hubba!  Hubba!

This is Miranda Coykendall from San Francisco, California.  Just after this photo was taken, Miranda jumped onto a boat and went out with armed guards to gather footage.  Since I left my 9mm Uzi at home, I opted not to go with her!

And this guy is why Miranda felt safe!

Looters BEWARE!!

Ya just never know who you will run into!  Meet Dr. Manny Alvarez, a Fox News medical contributor.  Hey Tina!  Dr. Manny says "hello!"

The unthinkable...  How ironic to see a boat in a drive thru of a Burger King.

You know the minute this "bird" landed I had to get a photo in front of it!  Landing on an Interstate highway...  cool huh?

And Ladies...  guess who got out of the helicopter?  Adam Housley!!

 Smile!  You're on Candid Camera!
